How we check places

The short answer

Local editors check Srilor's places on the ground in Sri Lanka, and every place page shows when its facts were last verified. Places cannot pay to be listed or ranked. Some drafts are machine-assisted, but a person checks every page before it is published. If something is wrong, tell us and we will correct it.

Every place on Srilor is checked by a local editor before it goes live. This page explains how we check, how we stay independent and how we fix mistakes.

How does Srilor check a place?

A local editor checks each place on the ground: how you get there, what it costs, when to go, what to wear and what to watch out for. Where we cannot confirm a fact, we leave it out or tell you to check before you go.

For entry fees and closures we use official sources where they exist, such as published ticket schedules. We never guess opening hours, bus numbers or prices.

What does ‘last verified’ mean on a place page?

Each place page shows a ‘last verified’ date: the day an editor last confirmed its key facts. Prices, timetables and opening hours in Sri Lanka change, sometimes without notice, so treat anything older as a starting point and check before you go. When a place changes, for example a new fee or a closed path, we update the page and its date.

Where do the drive times in the Srilor app come from?

The drive times between towns are typical times by car on Sri Lanka’s own roads, without bad traffic. Allow extra in the rain and anywhere near Colombo.

Times by train, bus and tuk-tuk are fair estimates, not timetables. Use them to judge a day, then check locally, because trains often run late and rain slows the roads.

Do places pay to be on Srilor?

No. Hotels, guides, tour companies and attractions cannot pay to be included, to be ranked higher or to change what we write. Places are on Srilor because an editor thinks they are worth your time. The app suggests towns to sleep in, not hotels, and it does not book them: you book where you like.

Does Srilor use AI or automation?

Yes, for some drafts. A first draft of a place description, for example, may be machine-assisted, built from our own checked notes and sources.

A person then checks every draft against those notes, edits it and approves it before it is published. Machines do not decide what is true on Srilor; editors do.

How do I report a mistake?

Email hello@srilor.com with the place, what is wrong and, if you can, a photo or a link to the source. We check every report, and anything that affects safety, such as a closed path or a changed entry rule, goes first. When we correct a page, we update its last-verified date so you can see it has been checked again.
